Why Duplex Jams More Often
The sheet passes through the path twice and turns around inside the device. Any curled or damp paper will jam here, even though it fed fine during single-sided printing.
Steps to Take
- Open the rear cover — on most devices this is where the duplex path is accessible.
- Slide out the duplex module if it's removable.
- Pull the sheet with both hands, evenly, strictly in the direction of paper travel.
- Make sure the entire sheet came out: count the pages in the job.
- Close all covers until they click — the device won't start printing until the sensors register it.
The Finisher
A stapler is added here. Before removing paper, check the staple cartridge: a jammed staple stops the whole module. Don't yank a sheet caught in the stapling unit — open the unit with its lever first.
Prevention
- Use paper of 80 g/m² or heavier for duplex — thin paper curls from the heat.
- Don't duplex-print envelopes, labels, or heavy card stock.
- Once a year, ask an engineer to clean the module's guides.
