Standard and High-Capacity Yield
The same model usually has two cartridge options: for example, one for 3,000 pages and one for 10,000. The second costs roughly twice as much but prints three times more — the cost per page is 30-40% lower.
When High Capacity Pays Off
- The device prints at least 1,000 pages a month.
- The cartridge will be used up within 6-12 months.
- You have a proper place to store the spare stock.
When Standard Is Better
- Printing is infrequent: the toner will clump before it runs out.
- The one-time purchase budget is limited.
- The device is scheduled to be replaced soon — leftover cartridges would simply go to waste.
The Starter Cartridge
A new device almost always ships with a cartridge at 30-50% of full yield. When planning your budget, don't count it as a full one — plan to buy a replacement consumable within a couple of months.
